Cheorwon Plain (Habitat for Migratory Birds)

The ecosystem of the Cheorwon Demilitarized Zone is well preserved, providing clean water and a healthy environment, making it a paradise for migratory birds. The sight of cranes lurking around the fields and flocks of birds taking off from the reservoir leaves visitors in awe.

In Cheorwon, home to the largest population of white-naped cranes in South Korea, visitors can observe 110 species of birds, including those protected as national treasures. These birds include red-crowned cranes, vultures, white-tailed sea eagles, golden eagles, as well as migratory ducks like the northern pintail and spot-billed ducks that come to Korea in winter.
